The Moravians were confident in their ability to integrate Tibet and its inhabitants into a Western framework of knowledge and power, and this confidence reflected back upon their attitudes towards the role of European ‘civilization’. This sense of self-confidence led to a rather ambivalent attitude towards actual Tibetans and Ladakhis.
